The news of the American elections has hit Germany and the reaction of the German people has been one of optimism and glee. The day before the elections I picked up a German newspaper which headline read, "Bring Back the Good America ". After hearing countless opinions, it is safe to say that the Germans do not approve of the current administration. It was interesting to view the elections from Germany, especially because the Germans seemed to be just as anxious to see the outcome as most Americans were back at home. The news that the Democratic party has won the majority in the House of Representatives has many feeling as if America has been given a fresh start. Whereas I used to believe that Germans harbored anti-American sentiments on account of our foreign policy, I now realize that Germans are simply anti-Bush. I would be interested to see the reaction from other countries. Perhaps the other Blogabroaders could fill us in on the reactions of the people in their respective countries.
Today's newspaper. The headline reads, "Bush must now govern with Democrats."
The housemeister, or landlord, here at Europahaus is not exactly the nicest guy in the world and seems to have an absolute aversion to any sort of work. I was unlucky enough to be in his office buying a wash card when someone told him that the elevator was broken. He became, quite literally, incandescent with rage and started a 10 minute rant about how nothing can stay fixed. Haha, it was a laugh, but I ended up missing the bus because I was too afraid to excuse myself in the middle of his tirade.
Well I had more to write, but it seems I’ve lost my notes, so I suppose that is it for this evening. Just as well, there is a party across the street and some boy is yelling out the window, telling everyone to wake up. I’m going to go see what all the fuss is about. Till later.
